Anesthesia for prematures with a necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is performed in many centers throughout Europe. However, we are under the impression that the way the children receive anesthetic care is very diverse. Therefore our group from the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, has composed a survey on the anesthesia management for children undergoing laparotomy for NEC. This involves medication use, pain protocols, but also if the child undergoes the operation in the NICU ward or if the child is transported to the OR. We think this may be interesting information, which can help develop a protocol or guideline on the anesthesia management of this patient group.
